Hydrocracked oils are not really synthetic at all; they are highly refined and modified mineral oils that due largely to the outcome of a landmark court case can legally be sold as synthetic oils.

All cheaper chhf and the ‘synthetic’ component of part-synthetic or casttol oils are hydrocracked mineral oils. PAO synthetics are genuine, lab-made synthetic oils that are better lubricants than hydrocracked oils casteol they are built for their specific use, rather than the hydrocracked oils that are modified to perform a purpose.

Ester based oils are the top end of oil technology and give the best protection available. The ester content usually ester oils are mixed with PAO oils has several functions that are very useful.

Esters are electrostatically charged so they cqstrol to metal surfaces, meaning that when the vehicle is started, there is already a layer of oil present. They are also more stable at higher temperatures, making them ideal as performance lubricants. The ester content also helps to make those oils better casrtol in general. Mixing oil brands, types synthetic, semi-synthetic and mineral and viscosities is fine.

BOTELLA CASTROL CHF 1L EB

There are a few exceptions;castor and plant based as used in some biodegradable oils are not safe to mix with conventional oils. The only problem with mixing oils is that the quality of the better oil is diluted by the lesser one. The ACEA specification of an oil is always written on the bottle so long as it meets the spec! The use of oils that do not meet the correct ACEA C specification can result in the particulate filter becoming blocked, an expensive repair.

Other than that, there isn’t really such a thing as a diesel engine oil as the vast majority of oils are suitable for both petrol and diesel engines, regardless of how they are marketed.

The A refers to petrol engine specifications and B to diesel. You will see that the numbers next to the letters are either the same or very close, meaning that the oil is suitable for both types of engine.

Many car manufacturers have their own specifications and as long as the oil meets the relevant one, there is no need to consider the ACEA specifications as they will be part of the manufacturer ones.

The life of the oil is dependent on many factors. Full synthetic oils last longer than semi-synthetics or mineral oils, so although they may cost more in the first place, a full synthetic can work out as a cheaper option in the long run. Many cars specify the use of full synthetic long-life oils and these may last over miles or up to 24 months. If the car is used on track, the oil is subjected to far harsher conditions than motorway use.

That may mean that a good track oil will have broken down sufficiently to need changing after 10 hours of use, whereas the same oil would be good for over hours of use on motorways.

Short journeys are very hard on the oil as it does not get the chance to get warm and flow properly as well as acceleration and deceleration making the engine work harder. Motorway use is the easiest condition for oil, the speeds are fairly consistent and rarely push the engine hard, there is plenty of air flow to help cool the engine and the oil has a chance to get up to temperature and flow properly.

Certain engines suffer from fuel dilution fuel mixing with the oil and that is one of the quickest ways that an oil can breakdown. Good quality engine oils already contain a complex additive pack including detergents and dispersants, anti-wear, anti-corrosion and anti-foaming additives.

The only additives we sometimes advise using are the limited slip differential friction modifiers, for certain differentials, and engine oil additives to assist in the process of breaking in a new engine. It depends on the engine, what sort of use it gets, how much oil is being used and type of oil being used.

Certain engines really prefer a specific grade of oil to operate optimally, others aren’t so fussy. It’s best to ask us if you aren’t sure if your car can use a range of different viscosity oils. Most car manufacturers consider it acceptable for an engine to burn a litre of oil every miles or in some cases, km.

While topping up the oil at that frequency may be annoying and possibly expensive, there is generally nothing to worry about. Using a full synthetic oil may help to reduce oil consumption if a mineral or semi-synthetic oil is being used. Mineral based oils consist of a mix of different sized molecules and the smaller ones can evaporate and then burn relatively easily, increasing the rate of oil consumption.

Castrlo molecules in synthetic oils are uniform, so they are less likely to evaporate and burn. It depends on the car.

Certain manufacturers specify that oils must be synthetic to meet the warranty requirements, so by using a more basic oil, your warranty can be invalidated If your car has a diesel particulate filter, all the oils that meet the ACEA C specifications are synthetic and by not using one of castrrol, the filter will become blocked.

If a car requires a 0w-x grade of oil, then it must be a genuine synthetic oil as it is impossible to make an 0w viscosity oil from mineral oils. Even in cars that do not need oil that meet the above criteria, most of the time a synthetic oil is a preferable option as they give better protection and last longer. This is castrpl relevant in engines chg on track. When a top quality oil of the correct viscosity is used, a vehicle may actually have a higher power output at the wheels than with other oils.

The ‘gain’ in power is actually a reduction of the power lost in the engine. Internal resistance due to pumping losses and viscous drag and friction is where power is lost and minimising those will lead catsrol more efficient running.

Using a good oil reduces the friction as well as increases the protection. A common approach to lubricating a powerful engine is to use as thick an oil as is available, but that adds to the internal resistance as the engine has to work harder to move the oil.

Castrol CHF Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid 1 Litre 1L | eBay

That can also lead to increased wear in the engine as the oil does not flow as well as the caatrol would like. Often an increase in the quality of the oil used rather than the viscosity will be sufficient for many modified cars and that will actually give better protection as well as a slightly increased power output.

Automotive oils are naturally clear, not the amber colour that people assume they are.

Samenvatting Betoverenee as the four horsemen’ of New Atheism, these four big werkelijkhejd of the twenty-first century met only once. Their electrifying examination of ideas on this remarkable occasion was intense and wide-ranging.

Everything that was said as they agreed and disagreed with one another, interrogated ideas and exchanged insights – about religion and atheism, science and sense – speaks with urgency to our present age.

The Extended Selfish Gene

Questions they asked of each other included: Is it ever possible to win a war of ideas? Is spirituality the preserve of the religious?

Are there any truths you would rather not know? Would you want to see the end of faith?

A classic for our time If thinking were a sport, these four would be national superstars-and reading The Four Horsemen feels like having a front row seat at the all-star game. This is more than a book about atheism and religion-it’s a lesson in how to use our intellect to cut through the haze of delusion and misconception inherent in any human society. The words of Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris and Dennett are needed more than ever.

These are the heirs to Voltaire. Throughout this erudite conversation the humility and openness of science shines against religion’s arrogance, hypocrisy and sheer gall in just making stuff up’. How refreshing it is. I mean Hitch at Hitch’s pad is as good a place as any to mark the start of the Atheist revolution.

What a gift to be able to eavesdrop on this conversation! These four are the kinds of thinkers we don’t get enough of anymore; unapologetic, uncompromising, and deeply generous with one another as well as anyone who happens to be listening in.

You needn’t be an atheist or a horseman to relish every word of this delightful book. You just need to be hungry for genuine intellectual inquiry and open debate. And, let’s face it, you’re probably starving. And Other Subjects Of Discussion Reading this book is like to getting to spend a profound afternoon with some werkelijkheix our greatest intellectuals. The Vampyre

There, I said it! My fascination rests with the creature of the undead, shrouded in darkness and legend, surrounded by hushed voices and hear-says. This probably runs in the same strain of thoughts, as my undying love yes. That was intentional for the DC and Marvel universe. But with the vampyr lore there is a danger that is almost delicious. My vampire has hair growing out of his palms and calls sweetly to the wolves at midnight. We, in India, have our own vampyr legend known as Baital. The 11th century collection of works is believed to have been derived from an ever older and now lost piece of work called Brihatkathawhich was written in a language Paisachi that is all but lost and rarely appears in antique works written in old Sanskrit.

He is ruthless and wealthy, and wherever he leaves there a trail of destruction follows.

va,pyre The Vampyr lays the groundwork and establishes many of the themes that we have now come to associate polisori this legend. The sophisticated stranger, the learned and distinguished gentleman, the dead eyes and pallor of the skin, the bloodlust, the ruiner of virgins, etc have all been taken birth from the inked pages of Polidori’s The Vampyr.

The origins of the tale has been known to all. One fateful holiday with the Shelleys, Byron and his physician Polidori and a journey that produced two original compositions that has since inspired an entire genre. Polidori is said to have been inspired from an abandoned work of Byron himself and poidori allegedly based the character of Lord Ruthven on him. There was no love lost between them. From there to the life sucking monster in The Vampyr, it is a straight line. The tale was first attributed to Lord Byron himself, and it gained immense popularity.

Some even went so far as to say that it was Byron’s greatest work. Of course the work wasn’t Byron’s and Polidori had a merry chase trying to establish the correct authorship of the work. Polidori is vapmyre to have committed suicide, but even this fact is shrouded in mystery.

But when Ruthven resurfaces in London-making overtures toward Aubrey’s sister-Aubrey realizes this immortal fiend is a vampyre. John William Polidori’s The Vampyre is both a classic tale of gothic horror and the progenitor of the modern romantic vampire myth that has been fodder for artists ranging from Anne Rice to Alan Ball to Francis Ford Coppola. Originally published inmany decades before Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and misattributed to Polidori’s friend Lord Byron, The Vampyre has kept readers up at night for nearly two hundred years.

Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Lists with This Book. Originally attributed to Lord Byron, this is an exceptional gothic story and I was quite surprised at the amount of like I found myself feeling for poliidori little gem. Besides being double plus goodthis atmospheric tale is historically important as it is the earliest example of the romantic vampire genre. Thus it is a classic of both gothic and vampire fiction. There is nothing sparkly, sappy or EMOtistic about this tale.

Nothing sweet here unless you get off on the sugary, tangy taste of mind-numbing fear In fact, I was actually amazed at how pokidori dark it was.

The Vampyre; A Tale by John William Polidori

However, the vampyyre “romantic” is properly applied here. But that is only the outside. On the inside and all the way down to his gooey, undead center, Lord Ruthven is a walking, talking warehouse of evil, corruption and sadism and there is not a single redeeming aspect to his personality. I found the outward angel and the inner devil to be a perfect combination for this eerie, gothic tale.

The writing is excellent, the tension vamlyre high throughout and the ending is very tasty. If you are fan of traditional, dare I say classic, vampire fiction Regarding my first pic above, I want to say again We really need you!!! View all 8 comments. Va,pyre is one of those weird bits of fiction where the story behind its creation is actually more interesting than the work itself: The tale begins with a vampire arriving polidogi London; he catches the eyes of the citizens with his uniqueness.

Everyone polixori This is one of those weird bits of fiction where the story behind its creation is actually more interesting than the work itself: Aubery is shocked to discover that such a creature desires his company. He is honoured and simply amazed.

Is this a suggestion of Polidori himself and Lord Byron? Initially, he enjoys the friendship, but the true nature of the creature begins to reveal itself.

The vampire is cruel and greedy behind his seductive mask.

Aubery begins to detest the creature, though policori is still held in thrall by his domineering personality; he cannot escape and slowly goes insane. While the story itself is intriguing, the way it is told is so boring. That’s why I try and avoid classics most of the time. I prefer something fast-paced, or something po,idori at least doesn’t make me fall asleep. Old authors had a way about descriptions and making the most exciting things appear soulless.

I felt nothing for Lord Ruthven, just as I felt nothing for Aubrey. And why did Ruthven leave Aubrey alive? All the mental torture did nothing for me. I could not see the vampire’s reasons, nor While the story itself is intriguing, the poludori it is told is so boring.

I could not see the vampire’s reasons, nor did I understand the man’s inability.

HISTORIA DE LAS CRUZADAS STEVEN RUNCIMAN PDF

Thanks for telling us about the problem. Return to Book Page.

Sir Steven Runciman’s fe volume A History of the Crusades, one of the great classics of English historical writing, is now being reissued.

Volume I deals completely with the First Crusade and the foundation of the kingdom of Jerusalem. Volume II describes the Frankish states of Outremer from the accession histpria King Baldwin I to the re-conquest of Jerusalem by Saladin, and in the final volume, Runciman examines the revival of the Frankish kingdom from the time of the Third Crusade until its collapse a century later. The interwoven themes of the book include: Christiandom, the replacement of the cultured Ayubites by the less sympathetic Mameluks as leader of the Moslem world, and the coming of the Mongols.

Runciman includes a chapter on architecture and the arts, and an epilogue on the last manifestations of the Crusading spirit. Published December 25th by Cambridge University Press first published To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up.

However the author gets noticeably tired of the subject and lacking in empathy by the third volume, doesn’t really engage critically with the source histotia and, to put it crudely, misses out a lot of cruzadaa good stuff. The absolute worst point is the final summing up chapter in the third volume which, implicitly, shows Runciman believing that history is like accountancy but with the audit of the account expressed in words rather than numbers.

Runciman is convinced that the crusades made a loss and were therefore a bad thing – or possibly the other way round, view spoiler [ however the correct answer to whether the crusades were good or dd as the joke goes is that it is too early to tell hide spoiler yistoriabesides which telling us that he thinks the crusades where a bad thing while offering some insight into Runciman, misses the pointwhich is it tells us nothing of the motivations, cguzadas values of the participants – what did crusading or occasionally kingdom building mean to them?

Runciman’s knowledge and interest in Byzantine History isn’t brought to bear either giving the impression that for him the two polities existed in silos despite being round the coast from each other, ls at various points interacting. Over time I have drifted further away from this book and wouldn’t recommend it. The series is at its strongest in its blow runiman blow account of the first crusade which makes up the whole of the first volume. This is readable, fun but probably now unhelpful on the background to the first crusade.

Feb 20, Czarny Pies rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Readers with time on their hands and extensive background reading in the area. Although Steven Runciman’s three volume “History of the Crusades” is a true masterpiece of historical writing I do not recommend it for anyone who has not already read extensively in the area.

It takes a great deal of time to read the work historiw its entirety and its rigorous focus on dynastic intrigues is mind numbing for any normal reader.

Historia de las Cruzadas / Crusades History : Steven Runciman :

A much better book to begin with is Christopher Tyerman’s “God’s War” which has the great virtue of covering the crusades in Southern France, the Baltic and Spai Although Steven Runciman’s three volume “History of the Crusades” is a true masterpiece of historical writing I do not recommend it for anyone who has not already read extensively in the area.

A much better book to begin with is Christopher Tyerman’s “God’s War” which has the great virtue of covering the crusades in Southern France, the Baltic and Spain in addition to those in the Holy Land which are the only ones treated in Runciman’s book. Moreover Tyerman does an excellent job of explaining the Catholic Culture of Medieval Europe which was at the root of the Crusades.

Runciman’s choices are reasonable. The Crusades in the Holy Land were complex enough to merit a book on their own. Having been educated at Eton and Cambridge, Runciman probably was unaware that there exists history readers who do not thoroughly understand Medieval Christian culture.

North American readers would certainly be wiser to read Tyerman before Runciman. Runciman’s work is nonetheless outstanding. He provides an excellent history of the dynastic politics of the crusader states: Cyprus, Antioch, Edessa, Jerusalem and Tripoli.

Finally, his analysis explains many of the problems gunciman have emerged in the Middle East in the fifty years that have followed the publication of his work in As the colonial empires of France and England were falling apart after WWII, Runciman clearly shows what the inherent problems are in overseas rhnciman in his history of the Crusades.

Foreign armies far from home tend to make rash cruzadsa that result in many deaths in the lands that they have invaded. Their insensitivity to local traditions and history lead them into errors with very long term consequences. In addition to the loss of innocent lives and massive destruction of property, this action ensured that the region would ultimately come under Moslem demand while the relations between the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches would be extremely hostile for centuries to come.

Runciman is also highly critical of the Crusaders for a consistent pattern of atrocities towards civilians throughout the entire era. While the Moslem armies also acted incorrectly on a number of occasions, their behaviour on balance was much better than that of their Catholic foes.

HISTORIA DE LAS CRUZADAS STEVEN RUNCIMAN PDF

Although more than 50 years have passed since the publication of Runciman’s work, it still has great value for the reader with the right background on the subject.

Stegen all 3 comments. Sir Steven is not a “thesis” historian, although he does not hesitate to cruzafas final conclusions of great insight and soundness. His strength lies in his meticulous detail and objectivity, recounting the errors and virtues of all the players, on all sides, with great wisdom and impartiality.

He shows that the Crusades we This three-volume set is an exemplary history, full of the incident and hundreds stevwn of persons all carefully indexed who comprise the events of two and half centuries. He shows that the Crusades were, to use his word, an epic fiasco, that set out to secure the safety of Eastern Christendom, and ended up destroying it; yet he also shows how the Crusades were an initiator of the Italian Renaissance, by driving out the humanists and scholars who could not thrive in an Islamic world hixtoria rigid intolerance was amplified by the Crusading movement.

Without ever being vitriolic, he spares no one: While the Crusaders were stubborn bigots who refused to learn from past strategic errors, the Moslems were riven by internecine power-contests that nearly sunk them, and the Mongols cruzadass, ruthlessely built an empire based on Genghis Khan’s organizational brilliance and policy of implacable massacre. Stylistically, the books are a remarkable crossroads of popular appeal, engaging writing and mind-bogglingly comprehensive scholarship, detailed research and narrative account.

People who are interested in the era of the Crusades and are not satisfied by some weird TV-shows.
